It's very frustrating not being able to use normal facial products during pregnancy. While learning why it's potentially harmful to use these products I was thinking, why are we using these products anyway? They're expensive and full of synthetic materials, so I've decided to find the best natural face scrub anyone can make at home. After doing some research and seeing what others use, I've been throwing together some of my own ideas and recipes. I'm going to make these one at a time and will update this page with my results after each. Here's what I've come up with:

Base for Scrub
Oatmeal, Almond Meal and Honey
Pumpkin, Chia Seeds and Honey

Coffee Grounds, and Honey or Coconut Oil
Green Tea, Baking Soda and Honey

-Honey helps heal and control breakouts. Oatmeal is very moisturizing and adds texture. Pumpkin contains enzymes, vitamins and antioxidants that help cells rejuvenate. Green tea is hydrating and an anti-inflammatory. Coffee grounds are great for sloughing off dead skin cells and is uplifting.

Essential Oils to Add
Wild Orange, Lime, Melaleuca, Peppermint, Bergamot, Grapefruit, Lavender, Slim and Sassy

First Scrub
Oatmeal, Almond Meal, Honey, Lime and Grapefruit

Recipe
1/3 c. Oatmeal, ground-not into flour but about halfway with some chunks left.
1/3 c. Almond Meal-You can find this at a health food store, I got mine at Sprouts.
1/3 c. Honey
2 Tbsp Coconut Oil
30 drops Grapefruit Essential Oil
12 drops Lime Essential Oil

Method
Grind oatmeal about halfway in small food processor, leaving some larger pieces. Mix in almond meal. Add remaining ingredients and stir until combined. Put in a glass jar with lid.

How to Use
Wet face, scoop out scrub and gently scrub into skin. Let sit for about 2 minutes (I usually brush my teeth while I'm waiting) then wash off and rinse face thoroughly.

My Experience
It works! I wasn't sure about smearing honey on my face but afterwards my face is very soft and smooth. My pores seem smaller also, isn't that a plus! The only thing I don't like about this scrub is it's a little messy. However, it does work well so I'll continue to use it. I would only recommend using twice a week to prevent your skin from drying out.
