Beating the Cold and Flu Viruses

There have been some nasty colds going around and flu season is upon us. There are a few tricks to keeping these viruses at bay and getting rid of them once they've led on their attack.

First is preventing the virus from entering your cells by strengthening your immune system. DoTERRA's On Guard blend is the perfect tool! This blend was found to be 90% effective towards the influenza virus. Use aromatically in a diffuser or cold humidifier 20 minutes at a time and periodically throughout the day to kill harmful bacteria, viruses and mold in the air. Apply 1-2 drops on the bottoms of your feet, dilute 1/15 with a carrier oil for sensitive skin and children under 6, for preventative care. Apply several times a day to get rid of an existing virus. There is also an On Guard hand soap, cough drops and all surface cleaner that is great to kill germs on surfaces like door knobs and counters.
Note: If you are pregnant, the On Guard blend as some oils that may be harmful. Do not use topically or internally. Aromatically is fine with dilution such as in a diffuser or humidifier that uses water. A better alternative during pregnancy is Lemon.

Breathe blend applied to chest and back will help open up congested airways.

Lemon essential oil is one that I love to use for colds. The molecules in doTERRA oils are so small they are able to pass through the cell wall and kill a virus, whereas other medicines can't. Lemon is an antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and antioxidant. This oil is completely safe for pregnancy and smells great too. Use aromatically, internally or topically. For colds use 2 drops of the bottom of each foot every 20 minutes for 2-4 hours and then every hour or two after that. I also love to clean with lemon. Put 25-30 drops in a 6 oz. GLASS spray bottle with water and use as an all purpose cleaner. You'll have the peace of mind of not using any harmful chemicals around your family and a great smelling, clean house.
